Georg Schäfer (politician)

Georg Schäfer (born May 2, 1919 in Egelsbach ; † July 24, 2014 ) was a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

Georg Schäfer trained as a lathe operator after completing elementary school in 1933 and did military service from 1939 to 1945 . After the war he worked for the Deutsche Bundesbahn. From 1952 to 1968 he worked as the district manager of the Union of Railway Workers in Germany . In 1968 his political commitment was rewarded with the position of managing director of Lotterie-Treuhandgesellschaft mbH Hessen .

politics

Georg Schäfer has been a member of the SPD since 1945 and has been the district chairman of the SPD Darmstadt there since 1960 .

In terms of local politics, he was city councilor in Dreieichenhain from 1946 to 1949 and city councilor in Darmstadt from 1952 to 1956. From 1956 to 1965 he was an honorary city councilor there.

From December 30, 1960 to November 30, 1978 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament. In 1962 and 1966 he was directly elected in the constituency of Darmstadt-Stadt I , in 1970 in the constituency of Darmstadt-Stadt II , in the other elections via the state list. From 1970 to 1974 he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, from 1974 to 1978 vice-president of the state parliament.

In 1964 and 1969 he was a member of the Federal Assembly .

Other offices

Georg Schäfer had been a board member of the Hessian Sports Association and chairman of the Hessian Swimming Association since 1961.
