Live and act

Coming from East Westphalia, the businessman Georg Schätzlein came to Mülheim an der Ruhr for family reasons, where he and his wife founded the company of the same name and later the supermarket chain "Schätzlein" in 1922. According to the entry in the commercial register, the original purpose of the company was "trading in soaps, oils, fats, brush goods and all relevant items that are usually sold in a soap and brush goods store". The founding couple ran the company for seven years until it was taken over by the Werhahn family from Neuss in 1929 . The company, which at that time already had 51 branches in the Ruhr area and on the Lower Rhine , was then expanded by the new owners into a grocery chain that operated under the name of the founder until the 1980s.
