Georg Schönberger (artist)

Georg Schönberger (born January 17, 1936 in Munich ; † February 18, 2017 in Volkmannsdorf , Freising district ) was a German artist.

Life

After two semesters of German studies and art history at the University of Munich, Schönberger switched to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and studied with Franz Nagel from 1957 , became a master class student and graduated in 1963 with a diploma.

Since 1963 Schönberger worked as a freelance artist. In 1968 he received the art prize of the “Friends of the Fine Arts” in Munich. In 1971, Schönberger and his wife Herlinde († 1999), also an artist, acquired the old school in Volkmannsdorf in Upper Bavaria. From 1978 to 1982 he had a teaching position for free design at the University of Applied Sciences in Rosenheim .

His work included commissions for architecture- related art such as wall painting, lead glass windows and mosaics, as well as for the overall artistic design of projects. Schönberger was also known for annual exhibitions in his own studio in Volkmannsdorf. Also in Freising, most recently in 2016 in the old prison , Schönberger repeatedly showed his works.

Schönberger died in February 2017 at the age of 81 after a short, serious illness.
