Franz Nagel (painter)

Franz Nagel (born September 1, 1907 in Günzburg ; † March 22, 1976 at Tegernsee ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Life

Nagel graduated from high school in Günzburg and then studied theology in Gurk from 1926 to 1929 . This was followed by architecture studies at the Technical University of Munich until 1931 and training as a painter and graphic artist at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich until 1939 . Nagel lived as a freelance artist until 1940, when he was drafted into military service. After the Second World War he returned to Munich, where he was appointed professor for painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1947. He was its President from 1960 to 1963 and was a member of the Presidential College from 1969 to 1971. He held his professorship until 1975.

His students included Albrecht von Hancke , Franz Hitzler , Rudolf Büder , Hubert Diestler , Bruno Gutknecht , Franz Meier , Mahirwan Mamtani , Johannes Menth , Heimo Berkic , Immolata Meyen , Wilhelm Eger , Engelbert Hilbich , Georg Schönberger , Josef Ivo Schaible SDS, Edeltraut Braun von Stransky , Franz Grau , Ernst Eichinger , Ugo Dossi and Walter Zimmermann .

In 1957 Franz Nagel took part in the special exhibition for the 7th annual exhibition of the German Association of Artists in Berlin .
