Live and act

Ernst Eichinger spent his childhood in Scheinfeld and Weiden as the son of Karl Eichinger, who later became the district court director of Ansbach . He spent his high school in Ansbach , where he graduated from high school Carolinum in 1948 . He then studied philology at the Universities of Bamberg and Regensburg. From 1950 to 1955 he was enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Professor Franz Nagel , where he graduated with a diploma. After exclusively freelance work until then, he was a full-time lecturer in fine arts at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, professor Hans Daucher .

While Ernst Eichinger's early drawings reveal echoes of the work of George Grosz , without losing their independent style, his painting at the time seems to have been influenced by Pablo Picasso . Eichinger sought to be close to the stage, made friends with the young Marcel Marceau by drawing and got to know the Falckenberg student at the time, Mario Adorf and Curd Jürgens . Extensive study trips took the artist to Italy in the early 1950s, particularly to Sicily, but also to the Balkans, Spain and France. In the 1950s Ernst Eichinger lived with artist colleagues (e.g. Herbert Kreil and Petrus Schloemp ) in the apartment belonging to the legendary " Schwabinger Gisela " on Occamstrasse in Schwabing.

Since 1955, Ernst Eichinger exhibited regularly as a juried participant until 2011, the end of this exhibition, in the “Great Art Exhibition Munich” in the Haus der Kunst . His often large-format pictures cannot be assigned and often change subject and technical execution. Eichinger dealt intensively with the subject of "table" and "space" using various techniques, and over the decades worked on various forms of typeface, architecture and landscape representations. Due to its variability in presentation and implementation, Eichinger was able to successfully submit thematically related exhibitions.

Eichinger had been a member of the Munich Secession since 1958 . He was an active member of the board for a long time and has been the first honorary member since 2013.

In 1959 he married Viola Turba, and in 1961 his son Sebastian was born.

Ernst Eichinger lived and worked in Munich since 1950 and in Limburg an der Lahn since 2014, where he died on February 17, 2015 and was buried in the main cemetery.
