Georg Schildknecht (born April 30, 1850 in Fürth , † April 16, 1939 in Munich ) was a German genre and portrait painter.

Georg Schildknecht came from a family of artists. His father Christoph Schildknecht and his son Hans Schildknecht were also painters.

Schildknecht studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg with August von Kreling and Karl Raupp and continued his studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Julius Amatus Roeting . From 1875 to 1881 he was a professor at the Royal Art Academy in Leipzig .

From 1881 he worked in Munich and dealt with genre painting from the Bavarian milieu. He showed his works in the Munich Glass Palace and in the Paris salons.

Georg Schildknecht was a member of the Munich artists' cooperative . From 1. to. On May 31, 1924, a collective exhibition of Schildknecht's works took place in the Old National Museum in Munich .

His motives were often farmers. His works include, for example: Farmer couple reading a letter (oil on cardboard), Farmer at the lawyer (pastel / paper), Two Dachau peasant women reading a letter (oil on canvas), Peasant couple reading (oil on canvas), portrait an old farmer's wife (oil on canvas), young Dachau farmer's wife (oil on canvas) or Swabian farmer's wife (oil on canvas). His late works are auctioned for EUR 650 to EUR 1100. Smaller paintings and sketches can be bought for up to 500 EUR.
