Georg Stenger

Georg Stenger (* 1957 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German philosopher and university professor for philosophy in a global world at the University of Vienna .

Life

From 1977 to 1987, Stenger studied philosophy, German , linguistics , art history and business administration at the University of Würzburg . In 1988 he received his doctorate in philosophy, modern German literary history and linguistics.

Since 2000 he has been co-editor of the Japanese Heidegger Complete Edition . He has been involved in the Japanese Complete Edition since 1992. In January 2003 he was mainly responsible for the German side of the Japanese complete edition.

That same year he was at the University of Würzburg habilitation .

Since 2006 he has been a board member of the Society for Intercultural Philosophy . In July 2009 he was elected President of this society.

In 2011 he was appointed to the University of Vienna.

From 2017 to 2019, Stenger headed the German Society for Phenomenological Research as President together with Inga Römer as Vice-President . In this function he organized the meeting of the society from September 18 to 21, 2019 under the title "fact-factuality-reality".

Research priorities

Stenger mainly deals with theoretical and practical philosophy of the 20th century and the present, hermeneutics , intercultural philosophy, post-structuralism, philosophy of language, social philosophy, cultural anthropology and cultural studies.
