Georg Weber (composer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Weber (* around 1538 in Weißenfels , † 1599 in Naumburg ) was a German cantor .

Life

Weber studied from 1554 at the University of Leipzig . First he worked as a cantor in Weißenfels. From 1564 to 1568 he held this position at the Wenceslas Church in Naumburg . After that, he probably returned to Weißenfels as a private citizen, where he had been cantor again from 1574. It is likely that Heinrich Schütz received his first musical instruction here from Weber between 1590 and 1595. Around 1595 Weber moved to Naumburg for the second time.

His son of the same name (1572–1626) became a pastor and probably also composed.
