From 1817 he was appointed court attorney and procurator of the Evangelical Lutheran consistory . Both offices, which are referred to in the sources as Procurator Fisci and Syndikus , he carried out until 1821.

Neustädter Rathaus, official seat of Georg Wilhelm Carl

As part of the administrative reform of the Electorate of Hesse, the old town of Hanau was combined with the new town of Hanau, founded in 1597. By merging the separate city councils and administrations, the previous mayors Johann Martin Iber (old town) and Johann Heinrich Kuhl (new town) also resigned from their offices. In 1822 Georg Wilhelm Carl won the election as the first joint mayor of Old and New Hanau. His official title was that of an ordinary mayor, only his successor Bernhard Eberhard called himself Lord Mayor of Hanau. Georg Wilhelm Carl carried out his official duties until his death in 1826.

annotation

  1. While Hanau belonged to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt 1810–13, the Neustädter Stadtschultheiß Kuhl temporarily lost his offices. For three years the then mayor of Althanau Iber led the affairs of both cities in the title of mayor .
