Georg Wilhelm von Lüdemann (pseudonyms: Ernst Scherzlieb; Justus Ironimus Kosmopolita ; * May 15, 1796 in Küstrin , † April 11, 1863 in Liegnitz ) was a German administrative officer and police director as well as travel writer .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, von Lüdemann studied law and took part in the wars of liberation against Napoléon in the years 1813/14 . He then got a job as a trainee lawyer in Berlin in 1816 , but had to redesign his life and career plans a few years later for health reasons. On the advice of his doctor, he made extensive trips from 1820, mainly to southern countries such as Italy, Greece and Turkey. On these trips he wrote a number of travel descriptions as well as his own short stories and translations of mainly Italian literature, most of which he published under one of his two aforementioned pseudonyms.

After these trips abroad, from 1824 von Lüdemann lived for one year each in the Rhineland , in Breslau and in Dresden , where he published further travel reports, before settling down on his estate at Cyrusberg near Freistadt in Silesia, today's Karviná . In all these years, however, he had not given up his civil service career completely and in 1835 he accepted a call from Aachen and took over the office of district administrator and police director of the Aachen district. He held this office until 1843 and then worked for a few years as a Secret Upper Government Councilor in Berlin and finally in Liegnitz. Von Lüdemann died there in 1863 after a tragic accident when he drowned in the Mühlgraben there.
