Vegetative characteristics

Aloe aldabrensis grows without stem or stem-forming. The upright or prostrate trunk reaches a length of up to 2 meters. The linear-lanceolate to sword-shaped leaves form dense rosettes . The green, often orange or red tinged leaf blade is 60 to 100 centimeters long and 4 to 10 centimeters wide. The teeth on the horny leaf margin are small.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence consists of three to five branches and reaches a length of 15 to 35 centimeters. The branches are seldom branched again. The cylindrical grapes are quite dense. The ovoid to deltoid bracts have a length of 2.5 to 4.5 millimeters. The bright orange-red flowers are on 12 to 20 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are 18 to 25 millimeters long and narrowed at their base. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 10 to 12 millimeters. The stamens and the stylus barely protrude from the flower.

fruit

The fruits are purple berries about 15 millimeters long and 12 millimeters in diameter.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe ahmarensis is widespread on the islands of the Aldabra Group on limestone in mixed scrub and thickets at about sea level.

The first description as Lomatophyllum aldabrense by Wessel Marais was published in 1975. Leonard Eric Newton and Gordon Douglas Rowley put the species in 1996 in the genus Aloe .
