George of Boddien

Georg von Boddien (born March 8, 1850 in Hanover , † December 8, 1926 in Dresden ) was a German portrait and genre painter .

Georg came from the Hanover-Mecklenburg-Mecklenburg noble family Boddien . He was a son of the Hanoverian Major General Leopold von Boddien (1809-1875) and his wife Helene, née Freiin von Krauchenberg (1823-1896), a daughter of the Hanoverian Lieutenant General Georg von Krauchenberg (1776-1843).

Boddien lived and worked in Zschachwitz near Dresden . In addition to his portraits of the military, he was known for his everyday military scenes. Thieme-Becker mentions roll- call or artillery in the snowstorm as examples , but also Quartermaker and Reitertod . In the scenes, a large equestrian portrait of King George of Saxony is highlighted and a half-portrait of his son, King Friedrich August III. , exposed.

Georg von Boddien stayed in Rome in 1879/1880 . In the years 1891, 1896 and 1906 he took part in the Berlin art exhibitions. He exhibited in Dresden in 1901 and 1906.

He married Franziska von Strombeck (1855–1931) on July 28, 1892.
