Georg von Brauchitsch

Georg von Brauchitsch (born March 25, 1885 on the Klein Katz manor near Danzig ; † January 8, 1940 in Bielefeld ) was a German classical archaeologist . His parents were Karl Hugo Wilhelm von Brauchitsch (* September 25, 1851 - August 7, 1893) and his wife Franziska Klara von Tiedemann-Brandis (* December 26, 1864 - November 4, 1920). General Ludwig von Brauchitsch was his grandfather.

After graduating from high school in Gdansk in 1902 and studying classical archeology in Berlin , Munich and Jena , he received his doctorate under Botho Graef in Jena on April 30, 1909. His book on the Panathenaic price amphoras was the first monograph on this genre of Attic vase painting . In 1909 he dug in Großromstedt . Since his student days he was friends with the writer Otto von Taube .
