Georg von Hatzfeld (* around 1493 ; † January 2, 1562 ) was cathedral dean in Münster and canon in Münster and Osnabrück .

Life

Origin and family

Georg von Hatzfeld came from the noble family von Hatzfeld , who came from the upper Lahngau and whose name was derived from the parent company Hatzfeld . Numerous well-known personalities have emerged from it. He was the son of Johann von Hatzfeld zu Wildenburg († 1505) and his wife Maria von Nesselrode zu Ehreshoven († 1523). His nephews Sebastian , Wilhelm and Heinrich were canons in Münster, Paderborn and Mainz.

Act

As canon of Münster , he can be traced for the first time on June 28, 1513. In 1553 he received the dean of the cathedral provost Philipp von Hoerde, who died in 1510. In January 1530 he became Canon of Osnabrück . He also held the office of cathedral bursar and was one of the members of the Münster state parliament on November 24, 1537 . On March 6, 1548, Bishop Franz von Waldeck confirmed the election of George as cathedral dean . In 1554 he renounced this office for health reasons, but was re-elected by the cathedral chapter as cathedral dean. On December 20, 1561, he made his will in which he stipulated his wish to be buried in the cathedral in Münster next to the grave of the cathedral dean Hermann von Langen. He donated money to numerous institutions and people.

Others

George had with Elsa Boemhover in a concubinage lived, from which the children Appolonia (1520-1594, ∞ with Christian Lennepp, Gograf ) and Georg († of the plague, 1578 Carthusian monk and Prior have emerged). They too were given ample gifts in the will.
