Georg Karl Elias Graf von Kanitz (born September 6, 1842 in Podangen , † January 3, 1922 in Berlin ) was court marshal and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Kanitz - a younger brother of the well-known parliamentarian Hans Graf von Kanitz and second son of the General Landscape Director of East Prussia, member of the Prussian House of Representatives and later of the Prussian Manor (1868–1877), Emil Carl Ferdinand Graf von Kanitz (* 1807; † 1877) and Charlotte von Sydow (* 1820; † 1868) from Stolzenfelde, Neumark - attended the convent school in Roßleben and studied law and camera studies at the universities of Heidelberg and Berlin . In Heidelberg he was a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia .

He was a lieutenant in the 1st Guards Dragoon Regiment and then in the Zieten Hussar Regiment , took part in the wars of 1866 and 70/71 and retired from military service with the rank of major. He had already served as adjutant to General Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia since December 27, 1866 .

Kanitz had been court marshal of Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia since April 22, 1870, and after his death (1885) court marshal of his son, Prince Friedrich Leopold of Prussia . He was made master of ceremonies on March 19, 1886 and - with release from this office - on June 12, 1889 with the rank of "Vice-Ober-Hofcharge". According to the court manual of 1914, Kanitz belonged to the court of Emperor Wilhelm II at the Prussian-German court as one of the highest court ranks and, as the royal Prussian chamberlain, held the offices of chamberlain and vice chief ceremonies . In this capacity he was a member of the Office of the Higher Ceremonies, held the title of Really Secret Councilor ( Excellency ) and was at the same time director of the Ministry of the Royal House (House Ministry). Kanitz was chairman of the general commission on matters relating to the Royal Prussian Order.

From 1893 until his resignation on March 14, 1894, he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Marienwerder 7th district ( Schlochau , Flatow ) and the German Conservative Party .

Kanitz was married to Helene Boniface Pauline Luise Countess von Hatzfeldt-Trachenberg (* 1847, † 1931), daughter of the Prussian Really Secret Council and envoy Maximilian von Hatzfeldt-Trachenberg and the Pauline Comtesse de Castellane , with whom he had a son, Friedrich Karl Maximilian Paul Emil Ludwig Georg Graf von Kanitz (* 1871, † 1945) and had three daughters. This marriage was divorced on August 28, 1884.
