Georg Julius Friedrich von Tschudi (born January 29, 1862 in Wiesbaden ; † October 7, 1928 in Berlin ) was a German aviation pioneer and officer who made a name for himself in developing aviation in Germany.

His parents were the Colonel a. D. Georg Sigismund Louis von Tschudi (* October 17, 1819 - November 27, 1883) and his wife Julie Sophie Viktorine Weltner (* April 29, 1824 - January 26, 1891).

Life

At Easter 1881 he passed the Abitur at the Realgymnasium in Wiesbaden. In 1894 he began working in the airship department in Berlin. In March 1897 he became captain of the then only German airship company and in 1902 a teacher in the airship battalion, and he also took over the military radio telegraph test department. In 1904 von Tschudi was chairman of the jury for aviation at the world exhibition in St. Louis . From 1906 to 1908 he worked as chief engineer and designer for the Moroccan Sultan Abd al-Aziz .

In 1908, von Tschudi took over the management of the first German international aviation exhibition in Frankfurt . In 1910 he became head of the first German airfield, Johannisthal near Berlin. During the First World War , from 1915 to 1917, he was the commander of Flieger Replacement Division 7.

Von Tschudi died on October 7, 1928, on the day of the opening of the International Aviation Exhibition in Berlin , of which he was the main sponsor. A book with his personal memories had been published shortly before.

family

On November 5, 1894, Georg von Tschudi Meta married Charlotte Friederike Oehmigke (1872–1939). The couple had children Irmgard (1895–1972) and Julius (1897–1957).
