George Barker (botanist)
George Barker (* 1776 ; † December 6, 1845 in Birmingham ) was an English lawyer and gardener . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Barker ".
Life
George Barker owned a nursery in Springfield, England. He devoted himself particularly to the culture of Mexican orchids , for whose import he sent his own plant hunters. In 1839 he was elected a member of the Royal Society . He founded the Natural History Association in Birmingham ( Natural History and Philosophical Society of Birmingham )
After him the orchid genus is Barkeria Knowles & Westc. named.
