George Butler (blues musician)
George "Wild Child" Butler (* 1. October 1936 in Autaugaville , Alabama , United States ; † 1 March 2005 in Winsor , Ontario , Canada ) was an American blues - harmonica player and singer.
biography
Born in Autaugaville, Alabama, the youngest of 9 children, Butler was nicknamed "Wild Child" as a toddler. He spent part of his youth in the Alabame capital, Montgomery , playing harmonica with a friend of the family, Big Mama Thornton .
He preferred a life as a musician to farm work. At times he stayed in Chicago and Detroit , where he appeared with the likes of Big Walter Horton , Sonny Boy Williamson II and Sunnyland Slim . In the mid-1960s he was working in Texas and Louisiana . In 1966 he recorded his first album under the direction of Willie Dixon . Six more albums should follow in the course of time.
Well-known colleagues Butler worked with include Howlin 'Wolf , Muddy Waters , Jimmy Rogers , Sam Lay , Big Jack Johnson, and others. Most recently, George Butler lived in Windsor, Ontario, where he died in 2005 at the age of 68.
