The 2005 U-17 South American Football Championship took place in Venezuela from April 1, 2005 to April 17, 2005 . All games were played in Maracaibo .

The two best-placed teams after the tournament qualified for the U-17 World Cup in Peru in 2005 . The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in the city of Maracaibo . The game was played in two groups of five, followed by a final phase with four teams, also in group mode. The national teams of Argentina , Bolivia , Brazil , Chile , Ecuador , Colombia , Paraguay , Peru , Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament. From the event, the U-17 of Brazil emerged as the winner. The decision about the first place in the table was made because of the two goals better goal difference between Brazil and Uruguay.

The national teams from Uruguay, Ecuador and Colombia occupied places two to four. The top scorer of the tournament was Brazilian Kerlon with eight goals in front of Uruguayan Elías Figueroa (six goals).
