The 2001 U-17 South American Football Championship took place in Peru in 2001 .

The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in Arequipa . The game was played in two groups of five teams each, followed by a final phase with four teams, also in group mode. The national teams of Argentina , Bolivia , Brazil , Chile , Ecuador , Colombia , Paraguay , Peru , Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournamentpart. From the event, the U-17 of Brazil emerged as the winner. The national teams from Argentina, Paraguay and Venezuela occupied places two to four. Paraguayan Aldo Jara was the top scorer with six goals scored .

Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, as the three top-ranked teams after the tournament, qualified for the 2001 U-17 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago .
