The 2009 U-17 South American Football Championship took place in Chile from April 17, 2009 to May 9, 2009 .

The national teams of Argentina , Bolivia , Brazil , Chile , Ecuador , Colombia , Paraguay , Peru , Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament. The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in the city of Iquique in the Estadio Tierra de Campeones . The game was played in two groups of five. The two group winners after completing the group stage qualified for the U-17 World Cup in Nigeria in 2009 and for the decisive final game for the tournament victory. The runners-up and thirds played in a group of four, the other placements and thus also the two other starting places for the U-17 World Cup.

The U-17s of Brazil emerged from the event as the winner of the final after a 6: 5 win on penalties (2: 2 after regular time) over Argentina. Places three to six went to the national teams from Uruguay, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador. The top scorer of the tournament was the Colombian Edwin Cardona with seven goals in front of the Uruguayan Gonzalo Barreto (four goals).
