Oliver Schepp

Oliver Schepp (born April 2, 1971 in Giessen ) is a German photographer and photo journalist. His work focuses on character portraits, reportage photography and scenic photography.

Life

Oliver Schepp was born in Giessen and grew up in the rural Vogelsberg in Central Hesse . There he also completed a classic dual training as a photographer. In 2001 he moved back to his native city of Giessen; since 2002 he lives in Wettenberg near Gießen.

Schepp began working as a photo journalist in the city editorial office of the Gießener Allgemeine Zeitung , where he has been an editorial photographer since 1993. In this function, he published almost 32,000 photos by mid-2014, including covers for the publications of the Mittelhessische Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft (MDV), the publisher of the Gießener Allgemeine Zeitung, but also in other media. As a photo reporter, he portrayed personalities from politics and entertainment, including Joachim Gauck , Angela Merkel , Volker Bouffier , Til Schweiger , Matthias Schweighöfer and Hanna Schygulla . Since 2013, the MDV has provided him with an edition of his monthly city magazine Streifzug for portraits of Gießen citizens once a year. On the occasion of the 5th Hessian State Garden Show 2014 in Giessen , Schepp exhibited 52 oversized portraits in the Giessen city center in cooperation with the BID (Business Improvement District) Seltersweg, up to 5 × 4 meters in size, of the citizens of Giessen with their personal favorite -Show green. The exhibition entitled “My Piece of Green” was created over a period of three years; With around 400 square meters of printed image, it was the largest photo exhibition in Hesse in terms of area until mid-2014.

Influences

For Schepp, important aesthetic influences are the work of the photographers Elliott Erwitt and Yousuf Karsh . In addition, influences from films by directors Tony Scott , Ridley Scott and Steven Soderbergh can also be seen in Schepp's work .
