George Casey (born March 1, 1933 in Brawley , California , † June 3, 2017 in San Diego , California) was an American screenwriter , film producer and film director in the field of documentaries and short films , who was nominated for four Academy Awards.

George Casey was born in Brawley, California in 1933. He graduated from UCLA and graduated with a Masters degree in Journalism . Casey was married and had three children. George Casey died in San Diego on June 3, 2017, at the age of 84.

Career

In the mid-1960s, he started working for Graphic Films, a film production company founded by Lester Novros in 1941 . His career in the film business began in 1974 as a director for the short film Planet Ocean . For his achievements in his directorial debut, Casey received a nomination in the category " Best Short Film " at the 1975 Academy Awards . The following year he released the short documentary Probes in Space , which earned him his second nomination at the 1976 Academy Awards . He completed his documentary Genesis on a budget of $ 380,000 . This was published in 1978, where he wrote the script and took over all other activities himself. On the day of Mount St. Helens eruption in 1980 , Casey reached the volcano and, on a budget of $ 100,000, was able to make the short documentary film The Eruption of Mount St. Helens! realize. For this film, he received his next Oscar nomination at the 1981 Academy Awards for Best Documentary Short . For his film Seasons , published in 1987 , he was able to hire William Shatner as an off-speaker .
