George Economou Collection

The George Economou Collection ( German  collection George Economou ) is a collection of works of the New Objectivity brought together by the Greek shipowner George Economou in the Greek capital Athens . The private collection focuses on art from the first half of the 20th century. Often it is about the representation of people.

Extent of the collection

In 2006 Economou began to create an art collection managed by Dimitri Gravanis and Irini Dimitrakopoulou. In total, the collection includes 2000 works by mainly German and European artists, including George Grosz , Pablo Picasso , Christian Schad , Werner Schramm , Andy Warhol , Diego Rivera , Fernando Botero , Hermann Scherer and Heinrich Hoerle . The State Graphic Collection Munich left Economou in 2010 about 500 printed graphic works by Otto Dix loan.

Place of issue

The collection is located in the George Economou Collection Space in Athens. An overview from the George Economou Collection was shown for the first time at the opening of the new rooms of the Athens Municipal Gallery . The opening of its own art museum is planned.
