George F. Bond

George Foote Bond (born November 14, 1915 in Willoughby , Ohio - January 3, 1983 in Bat Cave , North Carolina ) was an American doctor and leading expert in the field of underwater and hyperbaric medicine ; he is considered the "father of saturation diving ".

Life

Bond studied at the University of Florida , where he graduated with an MA in 1939. He then graduated from McGill University Medical School , where he completed his training in surgery in 1945. His Final year graduated Bond at Memorial Hospital in Charlotte (North Carolina) . In 1946, Bond opened a country doctor's office in Bat Cave, North Carolina. Bond also founded the Valley Clinic and Hospital in 1948 . The community honored Bond as "Doctor of the Year" in 1953. On June 22, 1955, he appeared on the national television program This Is Your Life .

In 1953, Bond joined the US Navy.
