George Friedrich Winckler

George Friedrich Winckler (also Georg Friedrich Winkler ; * 1704 ; † September 7, 1762 in Dresden ) was a Dresden builder of the late Baroque and councilor carpenter of the city.

Life

George Friedrich Winckler was born in 1704 as the son of the master carpenter George Winckler (1665–1744) and his wife Anna Maria geb. Toilets born. His father came to Dresden from Zitzschewig near Kötzschenbroda in 1698 , where he became senior elder of the carpentry guild and built the church of St. Johannis in Bad Schandau and the tower of the church in Drebach near Zschopau . The father also examined the planning of the Frauenkirchen lantern under the direction of George Bähr from 1738 onwards . George Friedrich Winckler himself obtained Dresden citizenship in 1729 and became his successor in the office of council carpenter after Bähr's death. As such, he erected the wooden dome of the Frauenkirche in 1743. From 1750 to 1754, together with the council mason Johann Christoph Berger, he built the Neustädter town hall on Neustädter Markt, which had been approved by Berger's designs and after a revision by the chief architect Johann Christoph Knöffel . In addition, he examined the planning of the old town hall and the organ of the Frauenkirche. In his work, constructive skills are particularly emphasized.

George Friedrich Winckler and his wife Eva Dorothea nee Leuthold (1713–1760) fifteen children. His son of the same name, George Friedrich Winckler (1736–1814), was also a Dresden council carpenter. During his wanderings, he brought architectural ideas from Copenhagen to Dresden. He mainly built town houses and worked as a theater carpenter. The grandson of the same name George Friedrich Winckler (1772-1829) became a well-known Dresden theater painter.

After his wife died giving birth to their fifteenth child, Winckler married Johanna Regina born in 1761. Praetorius, the widow of the Dresden councilor pharmacist David Beylich. Winckler died in Dresden in 1762.
