George Fuller (politician, 1802)

George Fuller (born November 7, 1802 in Norwich , Connecticut , †  November 24, 1888 in Scranton , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . In 1844 and 1845 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Fuller attended public schools in his home country. He later moved to Montrose , Pennsylvania, where he worked in commerce. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . After the death of MP Almon Heath Read , Fuller was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 2, 1844. By March 3, 1845 he was able to end the current legislative period in Congress . At that time there was heated discussion about the possible annexation of the Republic of Texas , which had been independent of Mexico since 1836 . This debate then led to the Mexican-American War .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, George Fuller worked in the newspaper industry. In Montrose he published three newspapers. He also became a treasurer in Susquehanna County . Politically, he switched to the Republican Party for the last 25 years . He died in Scranton on November 24, 1888.
