George Mesterhazy

George Mesterhazy (born April 8, 1954 in Hungary , † April 12, 2012 in Cape May ) was an American jazz musician ( piano , keyboard , guitar ) and arranger who made a name for himself as an accompanist for jazz vocalists .

Mesterhazy worked with his own formations in the course of his career; as an arranger he was best known for his collaboration with jazz singer Shirley Horn . His arrangement for the Verve album Loving You (1997) was nominated for a Grammy . In 2003 he also worked as arranger and pianist on Shirley Horn's album May the Music Never End . From the 1990s he was active as a session musician; u. a. he accompanied Rebecca Parris ( A Jazz Christmas ), with whom he appeared in New York jazz clubs such as the Smalls . In 2008 he worked with Cathy Rocco ( You're Gonna Hear from Me ), in 2010/11 with Mark Murphy and Lisa Lindsay ( Everytime We Say Goodbye ) Shortly before his death, he accompanied the singer Paula West ( Live at Jazz Standard ). He last lived in Cape May , New Jersey , where he died in April 2012 at the age of 58.
