George Moore (born October 6, 1918 in St. Louis - † July 4, 2014 ) was an American army officer and athlete who was active in modern pentathlon .
Career
Moore fought as a member of the US Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II . He received the Bronze Star twice , the Legion of Merit and, after being wounded, the Purple Heart . After the war ended, he took part in the 1948 Olympic Games in London . He finished the competition in second place behind William Grut and thus won silver.
He taught at the United States Military Academy at West Point and retired from active service in 1965 with the rank of Colonel . He then worked briefly in the computer industry before moving back to the education sector as head of administration.
