George Syrimis

George Syrimis ( Greek Γιώργος Συρίμης , * 1921 in Nicosia ; † January 5, 2010 ibid) was a Cypriot politician and entrepreneur .

biography

The son of a family from Agros studied economics in England after attending school , where he was certified as a Certified Accountant . After returning to Cyprus in 1948, he founded his own accounting firm , G. Syrimis & Company. His company later became part of Peat Marwick International until it finally became part of KPMG in 1987 .

In 1961 he was a founding member of the Cyprus Association of Certified Public Accounts of Cyprus (ICPAC) and at the same time its chairman for several years.

On February 28, 1988, he was appointed finance minister in President Georges Vassiliou's cabinet because of his professional experience and was a member of this until the end of Vassilious' term on February 28, 1993.

In addition to his professional activity, he was involved in social and socio-political activities and, among other things, president of the Rotary Club of Nicosia , the oldest club on the island.
