George Tichenor

George Tichenor (born February 2, 1920 in Logansport , Indiana ; † September 25, 1998 there ) was an American racing driver .

Career

Tichenor began his career in 1940 with a Ford A- Stock Car before being drafted into the military. After the war he continued his career in midget cars . In the late 1940s and early 1950s he was one of the leading midget car pilots in the United States. His greatest achievement was in 1950 when the Chicago-Mississippi Valley Division won Midget Cars.

Between 1952 and 1955 he tried four times in vain to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 mile race . He also failed to qualify in other races in the AAA National Series .

In 1958 he retired from racing.
