George Washington Greene

George Washington Greene (born April 8, 1811 in East Greenwich ( Rhode Island ), † February 8, 1883 there ) was an American historian.

George Washington Greene, grandson of Nathaniel Greene was 1837-45 Consul of the United States in Rome , in 1847 professor of modern languages at the Brown University in Providence and in 1872 a professor at Cornell University in Ithaca , New York . He died in East Greenwich on February 8, 1883.

He published valuable treatises on Italian history and literature under the titles:
