George Washington Stephens
George Washington Stephens, Jr. (born August 3, 1866 in Montreal , Canada , † February 6, 1942 in Los Angeles , California ) was a Canadian politician and officer. From March 18, 1926 to June 8, 1927 he was President of the Saar Government Commission .
Life
George Washington Stephens was the son of the Canadian politician George Stephens (1832-1904) and his first wife Elizabeth McIntosh. He attended high school in Montreal and studied at the universities of Geneva , the University of Marburg and the University of Hanover . He then worked in business and was, among other things, President of the Canadian Rubber Company of Montreal. In the meantime, Stephens served in the Canadian Army from 1898 to 1902 , most recently as Lieutenant Colonel .
In 1905, like his father, he was elected as a Liberal member of the National Assembly of Québec . Stephens was a member of parliament until 1908.
From 1907 Stephens served as President of the Montreal Port Commission until 1912.
From 1923 he was a member of the Saar government commission and later its president (1926–1927).
