Georges Bihourd

Georges Paul Louis Bihourd (born March 22, 1846 in Paris ; † August 29, 1914 there ) was a French administrative officer and diplomat who was last ambassador to the German Empire between 1902 and 1907 .

Life

Bihourd was initially an administrative officer and in 1877 succeeded Lionel Marie as prefect of the Aube department . He held this post until 1879 and was then replaced by Edmont Rondineau. He himself then succeeded Émile Cazelles as Prefect of the Département Hérault on December 12, 1879 and remained in this position until he was replaced by Henri Fresne on January 26, 1880. He then dissolved Ernest Camescasse in 1880 as Prefect of the Pas-de Department -Calais and held this office until his replacement by Henri Vel-Durand in 1883. He then took over on November 1, 1883 again as the successor to Émile Cazelles, the function of prefect of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department and held this until his replacement by Justin de Selves on May 1, 1885. In the period from January 29 to to November 17, 1887 he served as General Resident of the Protectorate Annam and Tonkin .

In 1890 Bihourd switched to the diplomatic service and was first envoy to Portugal and remained there until 1895. In 1895 he then took over the post of envoy in the Netherlands from Louis Legrand and held this position until he was replaced by Joseph Raymond Baylin de Monbel in 1900. He then acted as ambassador to Switzerland between 1900 and 1902 . Most recently, in 1902, he replaced Emmanuel Henri Victurnien de Noailles as ambassador to the German Empire . He remained in this post until 1907 and was then replaced by Jules Cambon .
