Georges Canetti

Georges Canetti (born January 23, 1911 in Rustschuk , Bulgaria , † August 27, 1971 in Vence , France ) was a doctor and tuberculosis researcher. He was the youngest brother of Elias Canetti and Jacques Canetti .

Canetti studied medicine in Vienna and Paris and received French citizenship in 1933. In 1937 he began to work at the Pasteur Institute and until 1944 headed the laboratory for pathological anatomy at the Paris Hôpital Cochin . In 1954 he was appointed head of the laboratory at the Pasteur Institute and is known as a recognized tuberculosis researcher. In 1958 the World Health Organization appointed him an expert, in 1959 he was accepted into the Legion of Honor . In 1970 he finally became Vice President of the Pasteur Institute.

In Paris, about 400 letters from his brother Elias and his first wife were found in the estate of Georges Canetti, "who was drawn to his motherly sister-in-law Veza in addition to having handsome men ."

In 1934 he fell ill with cavernous pulmonary tuberculosis, with which he had to struggle for many years.
