Georges Rose (born April 30, 1910 in Maisons-Alfort , † December 13, 1997 ) was a French football player .

Club career

The 179 centimeter tall Rose was born in the region around the French capital Paris and was in the squad of the capital club CA Paris from 1929 , with which he competed in amateur football due to the lack of a professional league, but made it to the quarter-finals twice in the national cup. The player has been called up in the course of his career both in defense and on the wing position in attack. He reached with the team the qualification for Division 1 , which was newly created in 1932 as the highest national league and professional league. When it was first played in the 1932/33 season, it was undisputed at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible. In the summer of 1933 he was lured away by the Brittany- based league rival Stade Rennes , where he also became a top performer. With the team he made it into the national cup final in 1935 and led them onto the pitch as team captain in the final; however, he had to bury his hopes of a possible first title win due to a 3-0 defeat against Olympique Marseille .

In 1936 he went to the far north of the country, where the first division club Excelsior AC Roubaix took him under contract. In this, however, he did not get beyond sporadic assignments, so that in 1937 he decided to switch again and returned to CA Paris. His second stay at the club, which is now in the second-highest division, was also short-lived, as he signed with FC Rouen in 1938 and thus managed to return to the first division. In Rouen, Rose no longer established himself permanently and in 1939 had to witness the beginning of the Second World War , which led to the cessation of official gaming operations. Unlike many of his colleagues, he was not involved in the war and was able to take part in the unofficial championship, which was still held; with Rouen he became the winner of the northern group in 1940. In the same year he left the club and found his second employer from Paris in Red Star Olympique . With this he was in the cup final of the occupied zone of the country in 1941, even if the entry into the national final was missed by a 1: 3 against Girondins Bordeaux . In the same year he ended his career at the age of 31 after 118 first division games with 18 goals and 22 second division games with five goals and other unofficial first division games.

National team

Rose was 23 years old when he made his debut for the French national team on April 15, 1934 in a 6-1 win against Luxembourg . The qualifying game for the 1934 World Cup was his only assignment for his country and he was not part of the final tournament squad despite the qualification he had achieved.
