Georgeta Pitica

Georgeta Pitică , married Strugaru (* July 5, 1930 - October 13, 2018 ), was a Romanian table tennis player and trainer. She became world champion in doubles in 1961.

Career

Georgeta Pitica took part in four world championships and two European championships from 1953 to 1963 . She achieved her greatest successes in double competitions on the side of Maria Alexandru .

She twice won the Romanian national championship in doubles, in 1957 with Maria Folea and in 1962 with Maria Alexandru. She was most successful at the 1961 World Cup . Here she won the bronze medal with the team. In doubles with Maria Alexandru she became world champion by beating the Chinese Qiu Zhonghui / Sun Mei-ying in the final. At the 1963 World Cup , she reached the quarter-finals in doubles, and in the team competition it was enough for second place.

She won two medals at European championships, in 1958 silver with the team and in 1960 bronze in mixed with Radu Negulescu .

Georgita Pitica achieved further international successes at international championships, for example

• 1961 in the CSSR victory in singles and mixed with Radu Negulescu
• 1962 in Romania in doubles with Maria Alexandru and in mixed with Radu Negulescu
• 1962 in Austria in doubles with Maria Alexandru
• 1962 in Hungary in doubles with Maria Alexandru
• 1962/63 in Germany in doubles with Maria Alexandru

In 1961, Georgeta Pitica was ranked 17-20 in the ITTF world rankings .
