The ninth season of Georgian Idol took place from October 26, 2019 to December 31, 2019 and was the Georgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ).
In the end, the winner was the singer Tornike Kipiani , who, with the exception of the first broadcast, was able to position himself in first place in the audience vote in every live broadcast. His later internally chosen contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest will only be presented at a later date.
format
concept
Georgian Idol is the Georgian offshoot of the British talent show Pop Idol and was broadcast annually from 2008 to 2013. In 2017 the format returned under the name Georgian Idol and in 2019 was used to select both the interpreter and the song for the Eurovision Song Contest. For 2020, only the artist was selected for the show. The program was again produced by Nova Productions .
Voting procedure
While in the castings only the jury determined the result, in the live shows only the viewers could vote for their favorites via televoting and via Facebook via Messenger.
Choice of contribution
The later entry for the Eurovision Song Contest will be selected internally by GPB with the winner.
Moderation
The 2020 edition was moderated by the presenter Ruska Makashvili alone. Already in the previous year she moderated the show, but at that time still together with Vaniko Tarkhnishvili.
jury
The four-member jury for 2020 contained two new jurors compared to the previous edition. While Natia Todua and Tinatin Berdzenishvili acted as jurors last year, Davit Evgenidze and David Aladashvili were new members. The following people were part of the jury:
