George's Church in Michelbach

The Protestant St. George's Church in Michelbach am Heuchelberg , a district of Zaberfeld in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , dates back to a late medieval church building and was given its current form in 1787.

history

Michelbach was originally a subsidiary of Zaberfeld. After the place was raised to an independent parish in the 15th century, the Lords of Sternenfels founded a new church. The church was originally a choir tower church ; a sacrament house from 1486 and the remains of a ribbed vault have been preserved in the base of the tower .

In 1787 the dilapidated nave of the church was replaced by the current structure. The tower was walled up and rededicated as a sacristy. Inside, the church was designed as a simple sermon church , facing the pulpit above the altar and without any other architectural decorations .

The historical furnishings of the church essentially include an old carved Pietà from the 15th century and the organ acquired second-hand in 1794, the prospectus of which was retained when the organ was renewed. The rest of the furnishings - altar, pulpit and gallery - were renewed in 1969, and a new baptismal font was added in 1993.

Bells

In 1873 the Georgskirche had two bronze bells ringing. The larger of the two was cast by Bernhart Lachaman in Heilbronn in 1511 ; it has the strike note h ', a diameter of 81 cm, a weight of 335 kg and its inscription reads: HILF GOT VND MARIA BERNHART LACHAMAN GOS MICH 1511 . The smaller bell bore the names of the four evangelists. In 1888 Heinrich Kurtz cast a new quarter-hour strike bell in Stuttgart , which replaced the older, small bell. The bronze bell had the strike note d ', a diameter of 67 cm and a weight of 160 kg; it had to be delivered in 1917 for armament purposes. The replacement bell, also cast by Kurtz, was replaced in 1921 with the striking note d '', a diameter of 65.8 cm and a weight of 171.5 kg, with the inscription EHRE SEI GOTT IN DER HÖHE . During the Second World War, the Lachaman bell from 1511 had to be delivered in 1942, but after the war it returned to Michelbach. In 1962 for the ringing at the Glockengießerei Bachert cast in Heilbronn baptismal bell added with percussive e '' to a diameter of 59.4 cm and a weight of 130 kg. Its inscription reads HE IS OUR PEACE .
