Ger McDonnell
Gerard McDonnell (* 20th century in Dublin ) is an Irish sound engineer , record producer and musician . He was best known for his work for artists and bands like Def Leppard , Celtic Thunder , Man Raze , Aslan or U2 in the 2000s and 2010s.
life and career
Born and raised in Dublin, Ger McDonnell left school in 1990 and then studied orchestral percussion at the College of Music in Dublin. Instead of an aspired teaching activity in this area, he first worked as a sound engineering assistant in the mid-1990s. With producer Mike Hedges , whom he met in a studio in Dublin, he worked intensively on various band productions and recordings by various well-known artists, including the band U2 . By working in many renowned recording studios in Great Britain, Ireland and France, Ger McDonnell gained valuable experience and learned the technical intricacies of his profession. In 1996 he was in charge of the Def Leppard group on their album Slang as the sole responsible sound engineer. This fruitful and productive collaboration has continued on seven other albums by the band over the years.
Since 2002 Ger McDonnell also appeared as a music producer. He produced the album Breadcrumb Trail for the Dublin rock band The Frames . The Nova Scotia plant followed for Moreau in 2006 . For the Irish group Aslan he worked on their album For Some Strange Reason in 2007 . For Martha Wainwright , he produced I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too for Drowned In Sound Recordings in 2008 . For the British rock band Man Raze he produced their international albums surreal and punk funk roots rock in 2008 and 2011 . In 2019 he was the music producer for the band Birds of a Feather and their album You are Music .
As a sound engineer, Ger McDonnell has been active since the mid-1990s. During this time, as a sound engineer, he was responsible for numerous albums by artists and bands such as Paul Brady , Manic Street Preachers , The Frames , The Cooper Temple Clause , Dido , The Priests and Martha Wainwright .
Ger McDonnell now lives and works as an independent sound engineer and producer in his native Dublin.
