Gerald "Gerry" Wagner (born October 1, 1962 in the GDR ) is a former German soccer player who played 41 games in the GDR league for Halleschen FC Chemie (HFC) , among other things . Further stations were BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau and VfL Klafeld-Geisweid 08 . Wagner is 20 times national junior player of the GDR.
Career
For the 1980/81 season Wagner was officially nominated as an attacking player for the HFC squad of the junior league . In the last two league games in the GDR league , he made two short appearances for his first first division games. In 1980 and 1981 he also played 20 international youth matches, in which he scored eight goals. For the season 1981/82 Wagner, at that time still in training as an electrician, was accepted into the league team. In the following years, however, he did not succeed in fighting for a regular place there. In a total of 106 league games between May 1981 and May 1984 Wagner was only used in 41 matches in which he scored five goals. After the 1983/84 season he had to relegate with the HFC in the second division. Even in the GDR league , Wagner was not part of the regular staff, in the 1984/85 season he was only used eight times in the first team. He then moved to league competitor BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau . From May 1986 to November 1987 he did his military service. Wagner played his most successful season in Schkopau in 1988/89 , when he, still called up as a striker, played 27 point games and scored ten goals.
In January 1990, Wagner and his teammate Thomas Meichsner joined the South Westphalian national division VfL Klafeld-Geisweid 08 . From both the club promised to avert the threatened relegation to the district league, which ultimately could not be averted. Wagner remained loyal to the club and, after two years in the regional league, celebrated his return to the regional league. With ten goals this season, the two-footed offensive player, who no longer played as a pure striker, was Klafeld's third-best goalscorer this season. The Klafelder stayed with Wagner as one of the leading players in the state league until 2000, before relegation followed. With 15 goals in the district league season 2000/01, the now 38-year-old underlined his scoring risk. Wagner played for the Klafelder "Fürsten" until the mid-2000s , with whose reserve team he celebrated the championship in the district league B in 2005. He then ended his active career. For a while Wagner directed the fate of the association as 2nd chairman. Wagner still has his center of life in Geisweid .
