Helmut Milzow

Helmut Milzow (born July 10, 1932 in Altenhagen , near Demmin ) is a former German rear admiral in the People's Navy .

Life

Milzow comes from a family of craftsmen. After finishing school he learned the trade of a saddler from 1947 to 1950 . In 1950 he worked as an instructor for the Demminer FDJ district association . He joined the armed organs of the GDR , Volkspolizei See , on November 18, 1950, initially as a signal guest and then began training at the Parow Sea Police School . In 1952 Milzow became a member of the SED and from 1952 to 1954 attended the officers' school for political work of the barracked people's police in Berlin-Treptow . From 1955 to 1957 he worked as deputy head of political work in the central radio station Stubbenkammer . From 1959 to 1960 he studied at the officers' school of the Volksmarine in Stralsund and was then employed as the deputy political officer in the 7th anti-submarine division of the 4th flotilla until 1961 . For the following two years he held this position in the 4th mine clearing division of the 4th Flotilla. From 1964 to 1967 studied at the military academy "Friedrich Engels" of the NVA in Dresden. He was employed until 1970 as the deputy commander and chief of the political department of the 4th Flotilla. Between 1970 and 1976 he also took on this post in the 6th flotilla . From 1976 to 1979 he was Deputy Head of Political Administration in the command of the People's Navy and responsible for organizational issues. For two years he was then delegated to study in the USSR , to the Academy for Natural Sciences at the Central Committee of the CPSU . After returning to the GDR, he continued his previous work until the end of 1989. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the GDR state, Milzow was appointed Rear Admiral on October 7, 1984. From January 1 to February 15, 1990, he assumed the post of Head of Political Administration and Deputy Chief of the People's Navy. On August 31, 1990, Milzow was released into retirement.
