Thomas Meichsner (born December 30, 1958 - † April 8, 2020 in Siegen ) was a German football player. In the area of the GDR Football Association (DFV) he was active for the Halleschen FC Chemie (HFC) and the BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau . He played with Schkopau in 1981/82 in the highest DFV division, the Oberliga .
Meichsner belonged to the HFC's junior division. In 1974 he and his team won the FDJ Youth Cup. Since Meichsner had not made the leap into the 1st team by then and was only used for the reserve in the GDR junior league , the HFC gave the then 22-year-old the chance to join the company sports community from the 1981/82 season ( BSG) Chemie Buna Schkopau, which was promoted to the top division, to make a name for itself. In Schkopau, coach Olaf Keller initially only used him as a substitute, but Meichsner already had a regular place from the 4th matchday on. Of the 26 championship games, he played 23 usually as a left defender, while he managed a goal. At the end of the season, BSG Chemie had the worst goal difference of all 14 league teams with 21:77 goals and had to be relegated from the league as bottom of the table after only one year. Meichsner belonged to the BSG in the three following seasons in the second-rate GDR league .
For the 1985/86 season he returned to HFC, which had also been relegated to the GDR league the year before and had just missed direct re-promotion as second. In the first league games Meichsner acted mainly as a defender, later he was used in midfield. On matchday 10, he suffered an injury and then had to pause until May 1986. It was only used again in the last four league games. Under the new coach Karl Trautmann , who had taken over the team after the missed promotion to the 1986/87 season , Meichsner was given little consideration; in only three championship games he was used.
When the HFC managed to return to the top division in the third attempt in the summer of 1987, Meichsner was sorted out and switched back to BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau. There he played three more seasons in the GDR league. In January 1990, he and his teammate Gerald Wagner joined the Westphalian national league club VfL Klafeld-Geisweid 08 . From both of them the club promised to avert the looming relegation to the district league, which ultimately could not be avoided. Then Meichsner, now 31 years old, no longer appeared in higher-class football.
Thomas Meichsner last lived in the Siegen district of Achenbach . He died there on April 8, 2020.
