Gerardo García León (born December 7, 1974 in Seville ), Gerardo for short , is a former Spanish soccer player who last played at Real Sociedad San Sebastián in the Spanish Segunda División .

Player career

Promotion fight

Gerardo started his career as a professional footballer in 1993 with Real Madrid Castilla in the Segunda División . After two years as a regular player, he changed clubs in 1995 and went to league rivals CD Leganés . It didn't last very long there, only a year later he went to the Catalan club UE Lleida despite his regular seat . There and in 1997/98 with CD Badajoz , he failed again on promotion.

Villarreal

In the summer of 1998 Gerardo went to first division promoted Villarreal FC . But after a year he and his team were relegated again. At least in 1999/2000 the direct ascent was achieved. After the first half of the season Gerardo left the club and was loaned to the Spanish top club Valencia CF. But after just six months, the Andalusian was awarded to CA Osasuna .

The last few years

In the summer of 2001 Gerardo moved to his Andalusian homeland for the first time and signed with the first division club FC Málaga . With the Andalusians he played until relegation in 2006 and even reached the UEFA Cup once . After the season he went to the Basque first division club Real Sociedad San Sebastián . Relegation followed with the Basques in 2007 , but this time he stayed with his club and became a regular in the Segunda División . In 2009, he moved to second division rivals FC Córdoba .
