Gerardo González (born September 15, 1966 ) is a retired Mexican football player on the position of defender who later worked as a coach.
career

González made his debut in the Mexican Primera División in the dress of the Ángeles de Puebla in an away game played on October 17, 1987 at Cruz Azul , which ended goalless. His debut was so successful that he also played the next three games of the Ángeles in full. In his third game, which was played on November 1, 1987 in the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City against Club America , he scored his first goal in the top division with a free kick to give the Ángeles a 2-1 lead (final score 2-2) . A week later, he scored the opening goal in a 3-0 home win against Deportivo Toluca to make it 1-0.
Between 1989 and 1999 González was under contract with city rivals Puebla FC , with whom he won both the league title and the cup competition in the 1989/90 season and the CONCACAF Champions' Cup the following year .
In the meantime he played in the Apertura 1995 on loan for the Club Atlético Morelia .
Trainer
After his playing career, Gonzalez worked for years in the coaching staff also in the city of Puebla based Lobos Buap whose first team he and 2012 briefly supervised both 2011 again as interim coach. He also looked after the U-15 youth team of the Lobos.
