Gerardo Rueda

Gerardo Rueda Salaberry (born April 23, 1926 in Madrid , † May 26, 1996 ) was a Spanish painter and sculptor.

Life

Rueda studied painting and music in the early forties. His first classical paintings appeared in 1949 and were exhibited for the first time in his hometown. In 1954 he presented his first abstract collages and drawings. He represented Spain at the Biennale di Venezia in 1960 , and his work became part of over 200 group exhibitions.

Together with Gustavo Torner and Fernando Zóbel , Rueda founded the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca in 1969 . His sculptures, reliefs and drawings are represented in numerous public collections around the world: monuments, murals, sculptures for the Outdoor exhibition of Castellana (Madrid), as well as the glass of the cathedral. The doors to the Spanish pavilion at the Seville World Exhibition in 1992 are also important .

In 1995 some works were recorded in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid .

The exhibition attracted particular attention in 1996 at the IVAM Valencia and in various American museums.

The retrospective ended at the Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and cemented its place in the world of Spanish contemporary art.
