Gerasim Georgievich Khugayev

Gerasim Georgijewitsch Chugajew ( Russian Герасим Георгиевич Хугаев ; Ossetian Хуыгаты Георгийы фырт Герасим * 15. November 1945 in Tschassawal , South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast ) is a South Ossetian politicians. He was Prime Minister of his country from 1993 to 1994 and from 2001 to 2003.

Gerassim Khugayev was born in 1945 in what is now South Ossetia, then still part of the Soviet Union . He studied from 1975 to 1981 at the philosophical faculty of Lomonosov University in Moscow . Khugayev eventually went into politics and became a member of the Oblast Committee of South Ossetia. When the Soviet Union finally fell apart and there was an armed conflict between South Ossetian independence fighters and Georgian troops, he led South Ossetian units. When South Ossetia achieved de facto independence, Khugayev became his country's prime minister from 1993 to 1994. From December 2001 to August 2003 he held this office again.
