Juri Ionowitsch Morosow ( Russian Юрий Ионович Морозов , scientific transliteration Jurij Ionovič Morozov ; born August 5, 1949 in Sterlitamak , Bashkir ASSR ) is a Russian industrial manager and South Ossetian politician. From July 2005 to August 2008 he was Prime Minister of the internationally unrecognized Republic of South Ossetia .

Life

Morozov was the financial director of the Russian crude oil company Kurskaya in Kursk before he was proposed by the President of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity as prime minister and was elected by the regional parliament in Tskhinvali on July 4, 2005 . Morosow is said to have visited South Ossetia for the first time in 2005. Kokoity said he chose Morozov because he was not involved in regional corruption. But the current South Ossetian leadership is also accused of corruption and links to organized crime in Russia.

Morozov sees the recruitment of Russian investors as his main task and is trying to bring South and North Ossetia together more economically and politically. His first visit abroad took him to the North Ossetian capital of Vladikavkaz in August 2005 .

The Georgian government, to which the autonomous region of South Ossetia is subject under international law, has criticized Morozov's election as “complete control of Russia” over South Ossetia.

In the aftermath of the Caucasus War in 2008 , Republic President Kokoity dismissed the Morozov cabinet in August 2008.
