Inspired by Expressionism, Böhme began working on socially critical issues and urban landscapes. The influence of his teacher Otto Dix can be seen in Boehme's nude drawings. His expressionist lithographs appeared around 1920, including the series "Strindbergs Rausch". He later painted street views, portraits, still lifes and animal watercolors. After 1945 he turned to non-representational works in watercolor. As breadwork, he carried out wall painting , e.g. B. in the former Milchbar Dresden in the Weißen Gasse (animal motifs, today painted over or destroyed).
