Gerd Brand (politician)

Gerd Brand (born April 19, 1973 in Tamsweg ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ until October 2018 ). From 2009 to 2019 he was mayor of Sankt Margarethen im Lungau and from 2015 to 2018 member of the Salzburg state parliament .

Life

After primary school in Sankt Margarethen im Lungau and secondary school in Sankt Michael im Lungau, Gerd Brand attended the Polytechnic School in Tamsweg. After a year of probation, he completed a three-year apprenticeship as a bricklayer , which he completed in 1992. He was then to 2002 as a bricklayer and until 2009 as a polishing business. From 2004 to 2006 he trained as a foreman at the Bauakademie Salzburg.

From 2009 he was an employee of the SPÖ Salzburg and mayor of Sankt Margarethen im Lungau, from 2014 to 2018 he was also the district chairman of the SPÖ in Lungau . On March 18, 2015, he was sworn in as a member of the Salzburg state parliament, succeeding Andreas Haitzer in the 15th legislative period . In the Salzburg state parliament he was a member of the finance committee, the committee for infrastructure, transport and housing as well as the education, school, sports and culture committee.

After the state elections in Salzburg in 2018 , he left the state parliament. In October 2018 he announced his resignation from the party and resigned from his role as Lungau SPÖ district chairman. Franz Doppler took over this function on an interim basis. In the municipal council and mayoral elections in Salzburg in 2019 , Johann Lüftenegger (ÖVP) was elected as his successor as mayor.
